Since 2009, Nova Electric Racing teams have combined technology, sustainability and innovation in building their motorcycles. For a few years now, the vehicle has been all electric, but the first types ran on bio-ethanol. At that time, more sustainable than conventional fuels.
“In the years that followed, teams developed new generations of this bike and participated in several championships and even won a few times”, says current PR manager Soumik Guha. “But with the boom of electric cars, teams started exploring opportunities of electric vehicles and in 2016 built the first Dutch electric racing motorcycle.” To show the world the potential of that bike the dreamteam participated in the MotoE Competition and became European Champions in 2017.
Ready to roll
Nova Electric Racing is one of the smallest teams on campus, but that doesn’t stop them from reaching their goals. “We have a great mix of different cultures and we are all extremely dedicated to contributing to the future of sustainable transport”, says team manager Sanne Guis.
The 10th team is going to bring a newly designed and built electric motorcycle for the racing season of 2019. Their main goal is to compete and win the Open eSBK (Open Electric Superbike Competition). “Each year we rebuild the bike from scratch in order to reach the state of perfect. Our new design promises to deliver better manoeuvrability for the rider along with higher yet reliable speeds. We have learned from the mistakes that were made last season and are ready to roll”, concludes Guha.
