Willemijn Dicke on her new novel ‘iGod’

Our age of rapid digitalization may well develop into a nightmare that puts Orwell’s 1984 in the shadow. Willemijn Dicke translated Dirk Helbing’s darkest visions into a science fiction novel called ‘iGod.’ Delta visited her for a book talk.

Dr. Dirk Helbing (Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management and ETH Zürich) has an opinionated voice in the debate on social networks, big data, cloud computing and the like. He argues that informed citizens should take the lead in big data projects. In ‘iGod’ he shows what might happen if data control remains with an ‘elite.

Dr. Willemijn Dicke, Secretary General of the IDEA League, previously wrote the novel Mea about an Associate Professor struggling with problems of the middle-aged. Helbing’s vision inspired her for a book that plays in the near future (around 2025) in a world that is very similar to ours, where a terrible conspiracy threatens millions of people.

Willemijn Dicke, Dirk Helbing, iGod, 230 pages, CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform, 2017, $ 10 (Kindle) or $14 (paperback). Available on Amazon
