Trump victorious

Early on Wednesday morning, Hillary Clinton conceded the presidential election to Donald Trump after a near two year-long campaign.

Heading into the election on Tuesday, November 8, 2016, most polls were predicting a comfortable Clinton victory in both the popular vote and the Electoral College. In the United States, the presidential election is determined by the Electoral College, a body of electors who represent each state, rather than a majority in a national election. Earlier this morning, Trump obtained the 270 votes needed to win.

“I really don’t know what to say,” said Holly Robbins, an American PhD candidate in Industrial Design Engineering (IO.) The results were surprising to many Americans living abroad, who overwhelmingly supported Clinton.

Final results are expected to come in throughout the day, including the outcomes of a number of House and Senate races. Republicans were predicted to maintain their majority in both chambers.
