Dean PatijnThe dean of the TU’s Faculty of Architecture, Wytze Patijn, continues to recover from a life-threatening bacterial infection resulting from a complication during minor surgery he recently underwent at Rotterdam’s Haven Hospital.
The dean has now been transferred to another hospital. “We understand that the recovery process will take months. But how many months we can’t say at this point,” said a faculty spokesman. “But the dean is once again talking enthusiastically about all the new developments at the faculty.”
,Obvius toss
The student tennis association DSTV Obvius is one of the most international student friendly clubs on campus. DSTV Obvius, which has both Dutch and international student members, invites all international students to come play tennis and meet the club’s board members during their ‘Toss’ evenings. ‘Toss’ is from 20:00 to 22:00 every Thursday at the Sports Centre, when Obvius members and non-members play friendly matches, changing doubles partner and opponents every 20 minutes in order to play with and get to know many different people.

AKO Literature Prize winner Doeschka Meijsing will be TU Delft’s 2009 guest writer. As the TU’s guest writer, Meijsing will follow renowned Dutch authors A.F.Th. van der Heijden (2008), Tommy Wieringa (2007), Arnon Grunberg (2005) and Hugo Brandt Corstius (2003). On April 16, 2009, Meijsing’s guest writership will begin with a public lecture, which will be followed by six master classes for students. The theme of Meijsing’s guest writership is ‘The house of memories’.
,Moonlight
Four TU Delft Industrial Design students won the prestigious ‘Toon van Tuijl Design Prize’ for their lamp, called the ‘MoonLight’, which is a cheap lamp powered by solar energy that can be used in developing countries. The four TU students – Doortje van de Wouw, Ana Maria Alvarez, Loucas Papantoniou and Stephanie Wirth – traveled to Cambodia to work on the design of this LED, solar-powered lamp. The lamp was specially designed for people from rural areas of Cambodia who do not have access to electricity.
