Learn about upcoming local elections

Did you know local elections in Delft are approaching? Are you aware of your eligibility to vote? A workshop organized by a local political party can help you with these questions and more.

Delft will hold city elections on March 19 2014. Elections are held every four years for gemeenteraad or city council. Non-Dutch European and non-European residents of Delft may be eligible to vote.

The local chapter of the GroenLinks (or Green Left) party is organizing an information night for internationals on January 23 2014. The workshop will cover voter eligibility and the voting process. It will also cover general information regarding the city government and how it is run. GroenLinks Delft city councillors Catherine bij de Vaate and Sinan Özkaya will also attend and will be available to answer questions.

“Delft is known as the knowledge city and includes many internationals who come here to work and study,” says Lucie Cunningham, a candidate in the local Delft elections and a member of the GroenLinks party. Yet many internationals are unaware that they are even eligible to vote. The GroenLinks Party is also interested in receiving feedback from the international community about the issues that they are most interested in. Attendees are encouraged to consider the issues that are important to you and, if appropriate, prepare a list of questions.

The workshop will be held on Thursday, January 23 2014 from 20:00 until 21:30, followed by drinks. The workshop will take place at GroenLinks Delft’s headquarters at Hippolytusbuurt 4, 2611HN. It is free of charge. You can get more information about the event on the GroenLinks Delft website or by following them on Facebook or Twitter. You can RSVP for the event on Facebook.
