Investeringen in R&D zakken weg, maar minister verbindt er geen conclusies aan

Ondanks dat Nederland nu al te weinig investeert in onderzoek en ontwikkeling (R&D), wilde onderwijsminister Bruins donderdag in de Tweede Kamer niet concluderen dat Nederland door zijn bezuinigingen nog verder zal wegzakken.

Tijdens Bruins’ eerste debat in de Tweede Kamer, ter voorbereiding op een aankomend Europees overleg, vroeg GroenLinks-PvdA de minister hoe Nederland de internationale R&D-norm van drie procent van het bruto binnenlands product gaat halen nu het kabinet hierop bezuinigt.

Nederland haalt die norm bij lange na niet, rapporteerde het Rathenau Instituut vlak voor de zomer al. Met een voorgenomen bezuiniging op het hoger onderwijs van 1 miljard euro lijkt dat niet beter te worden. Bruins erkende dat er wordt bezuinigd, maar hij wilde niet concluderen dat Nederland de norm zeker niet zal halen. “Ook bij tegenwind moet je blijven roeien en misschien wel een stukje harder.”

Na de ministerraad op vrijdag 13 september komt het zogeheten regeerprogramma naar buiten en op dinsdag 17 september, op Prinsjesdag, presenteert het kabinet de begroting voor 2025.
