The photography group of the Hellenic Student Society of the Netherlands is currently running its 1st Annual Photography Exhibition.
The Hellenic Student Society of the Netherlands welcomes Greek students to the Netherlands in a variety of ways but locally, they have a thriving photography club. “We started with just three people and we’ve grown to between 15 and 20 members,” says organizer Theodoros Matakiadis. The group consists of mostly amateur photographers, but does have a few professionals, and exchanges advice, ideas and support. Around half of the group members are TU students, mostly pursuing master’s degrees.
For the first time, the group is organizing an end-of-year showcase of the photos group members have taken during the course of the academic year. Group members submitted five of their favorite photos taken during the year and, of those five, three were selected to be showcased.
Eleni Sgourpoulou, a master’s student in architecture, enjoys photography as a hobby and has submitted a number of photos of land and cityscapes. “I enjoy playing with the light,” she says and confesses she doesn’t take photos of faces.
Many of the photos reflect the international background of the group, featuring photos from all over the world. A few, however, show recognizable sites from Delft and the Netherlands. Though the student society may focus on Greek students, all students are welcome and other nationalities will have photos shown at the exhibition.
The exhibition will be held in Blueberry, a lunch cafe in the city centre. Owner Taco Beglinger deliberately chose the location because of its qualities as an exhibition space. “I want to support the local artistic community,” he says. The cafe is always showcasing art in various forms.
The exhibition will take place over three days: Tuesday, June 11th from 8:30 until 18:00; Wednesday, June 12th from 8:30 until 21:00 and Thursday, June 13th from 8:30 until 21:00. Blueberry is located at Brabantse Turfmarkt 32A in Delft.
