TU Delft’s Nova Electric team spent the weekend at the 2016 MotoE event in Assen. They had hoped to race in the competition, which pitted electric motorcycle racing teams from around the world against one another. Unfortunately, their dreams were dashed on Friday morning.

While the team was putting the finishing touches on their battery pack, a short circuit caused a fire to erupt in one of the cells. It was quickly put out but a powder extinguisher caused substantial damage to the battery’s electrical components. As a result, they weren’t able to participate in the event.
“We are making the best of the time we have amongst the other teams, which we would like to thank for their help and support,” the team wrote on their Facebook page. “We are looking forward to the next opportunity and will continue to work at making our first meters on the track!”
