The week brought all of us, but especially one of the gringos, a very nice surprise. His girlfriend decided to come visit him. With her arrival, a fresh batch of Dutch sweets and stroopwafels also arrived.
For the first time in weeks we were able to enjoy some decent bread and other bakeware we haven’t been able to find in Brazil, but she was able to bake for us.
Although we received some nice company, we reckon we could have started the first days of the week better if it wasn’t for the mild food poisoning all four of us experienced. It lead to a few extra hours spent in the bathroom and mildly reduced productivity during the hours spent near our desks. Fortunately the problems only persisted for a couple of days after which it was time to pick up the pace.
With work steadily progressing two of the gringos were sent out to our supporting company CB&I for two days of serious Delft3D modelling. After multiple headaches and errors they were able to construct a model, with of course a bit of help of the people working there. With the model we hope to test our proposed solutions to the sedimentation problems.
On Friday the modellers even had a bit of extra luck because it was the cleaning lady’s birthday. The whole company went to a really nice bbq restaurant to celebrate. After the surprise lunch they took a little detour back to the office and were able to see the beautiful northern part of Florianopolis.
The weekend brought some nice waves but also a nasty experience with a paddle board. While trying to catch a wave, one of the guys came into collision with a paddle boarder. Two hours and three stitches later he was back on his feet, with the knowledge that the Brazilian health care system is free and not nearly as bad as many of the locals have told us.
