Beep beep, beep beep. The sound that has predominantly filled our last days in the Netherlands. With our arms still sore from the vaccinations we’re testing our newly acquired drone.
Boys with toys, they say. It’s only a few more days till our great escape; the coming three months we’ll be experiencing and reporting about the Brazilian way of life under the pseudonym Quatro Gringos (four whites in Latin America).
In Brazil we will be working on a research project in the port of Imbituba. During the project we’ll be reporting back to Delft now and then on how Brazil experiences us and how we experience Brazil. Our blog will focus on our daily experiences, what troubles we run into and what makes Brazil Brazil. But now and then we will also try to update you with the progress and findings of our project.
The actual goal of our trip will be to research sedimentation issues in the port of Imbituba. The port infrastructure has undergone an adaptation in recent history that now suddenly causes excess sedimentation. Our task will be to investigate the evolution of the sedimentation. In other words: we’ll be running models, checking on where sand is coming from. But with the help of our drone we’ll also be doing some field work, and hopefully shoot some beautiful images for our followers in Delft.
While our last 48 hours are ticking away, we visit friends and family members in a record pace. Bags are packed and the final paperwork is completed. Nothing is left to chance, except for our Portuguese language skill (which is non-existent). Hopefully the Brazilians know some English, otherwise sign language will be our primary language the coming few weeks.
Greetings,
Quatro Gringos
