Feel the music with BkBeats

BkBeats is organized by a group of active students from DBSG Stylos , the student association of the Faculty of Architecture at TU Delft.

This 22^nd edition of BkBeats is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever, according to Niels Franssen, event chairman. “Rise into the sky” is the theme of this pulsing music festival and every part of the event will be connected to this. Organizers expect more than 2,000 people to attend the festival, which will take place at BK City.

The venue offers roughly 2,500 m² of floor space, which can accommodate four large and two small stages. Franssen, a 3^rd year architecture student, said the main stage alone is bigger than any other faculty party’s entire event. He said it’s different than other parties because it’s more of a festival, with more artists and more lounge space. Franssen also mentioned that after turning the faculty into a nightclub until 5 in the morning, two days later it will amazingly be back to normal for studying and learning.

The festival, which happens every two years, will showcase both established and up and coming artists on the DJ and music scene. One of the most well-know acts that will hit the stage is the DJ trio called Dirtcaps. This techno group currently has a hit on the Dutch music charts called “Money on my mind.” In April, event organizers also invited young and talented DJs and bands to compete for a spot on the June program. The winner of the band contest, Rice 2 and the winner of the DJ contest, J.U.L.I.A.N., were selected by an audience poll.

This year’s edition of BkBeats offers a special twist because at 20:45 the Netherlands will face Spain in a World Cup football match. This event will be aired live on a big screen, and the music will begin afterwards. “If we win it’s going to be totally crazy!” says Franssen. He noted that even if the Netherlands loses the party will be sure to help put people in a good mood.
