Delft Open 2017 is the first international debating competition organised in Delft, according to the initiator of this event, TU Delft Debating Club.
On Sunday 18th June, doors open at 15:00 at the Van der Mandelezaal at Museum Prinsenhof in Delft. Four teams will compete against each other to win the Grand Final tournament.
The finalists will be given a motion about a burning topic in society
The competition spans two days. Forty teams will engage with each other on the Saturday before and on Sunday morning. Only the four top performing teams will compete in the grand finale on Sunday afternoon.
The finalists will be given a motion about a burning topic in society and are assigned a position on the topic only 15 minutes before the debate starts. They then debate the issue with the opposition.
Don’t start foaming at the mouth when you are challenged

Nelson’s team is ranked by the International Debate Education Association as the No. 1 university debating team in the world.
Some of Nelson’s most important tips: convince your audience through ethos and credibility based on character; use pathos, and appeal to emotion; and use logos, logic. And don’t start foaming at the mouth when you are challenged.
