Deliberation: should TU Delft work with the fossil industry?

Following internal and national discussions on the collaboration with the fossil fuel industry, TU Delft is organising a deliberation on April 5th. TU Delft staff and students can attend.

The panel will react on eight statements, says dr. Riccardo Riva, associate professor in sea level change and one of the organisers of this event. “These are statements like ‘collaboration with the fossil industry is greenwashing’ and ‘the energy transition is impossible without the fossil industry’”.

Science journalist Geert Maarse will act as moderator. Riva and fellow organizer and climate modeler dr. Miren Vizcaino hope to make the deliberation as interactive as possible. Attendees will be able to share their opinions through a microphone or an online poll. “Some people have complained that there is a lack of transparency on decisions the university board makes”, Riva says. “Now there is a chance to talk about your reasons to collaborate with the fossil industry or not.”

The deliberation will take place on 5 April in the Co-Creation Centre at The Green Village, between 2:30 PM and 4:30 PM. Registration is possible here. There is room for up to two hundred people. The option previously offered to watch via a live stream has been dropped. That stream could potentially influence the panellists, Riva informs. (RvdW)
