Have you ever followed the Tour de France and wondered what kind of teams are behind these super athletes? Students from TU Delft work with professional cycling teams to optimise the aerodynamics of their riders.
The Faculty of Aerospace Engineering has a wind tunnel, in which students can run simulations on a cyclist. Starting off from the baseline position of the rider they measure the aerodynamic drag of the rider. They test different elements of the rider: even tiny details like glasses could influence the aerodynamics of a rider and with that, the speed!
