128 thousand students will receive a supplementary grant or a higher supplementary grant amount for the first time starting Wednesday. This is because the income limit of their parents has been raised as of January 1, 2024, reports study financer DUO.
Students will now receive the supplementary grant if their parents’ income is less than 70 thousand euros. Previously, that limit was 53.900 euros. Increasing the parental income limit is one of the measures in the bill ‘Reintroducing basic scholarship in higher education’.
Currently, a total of 180 thousand students receive a supplementary grant. More students will be added, DUO predicts, because for 64 thousand students ‘additional data’ are needed before their right to a supplementary grant can be determined.
The supplementary grant is a maximum of 457.60 euros per month. That’s on top of the basic grant of 121 euros for students living at home and 466.69 euros per month for students who have moved out of their parents house. (HOP, BB / Delta, AdB)
