Almost forty Delft student associations have promised to take a structural approach to transgressive sexual behaviour. This is stated in a declaration of intent.
Various students- , study- and sports associations signed the ‘declaration of intent concerning transgressive behaviour’ on Tuesday 24 May. By signing it, they promise – on the basis of five action points – to guarantee social safety within the association.
This means that associations must organise an annual event about the theme, but also actively work on making sexually transgressive behaviour discussable among themselves. For example, by using conversation techniques. In addition, it must be clear where members can ask for help, and sufficiently trained counsellors and a protocol for serious situations are also mandatory.

The signing took place at the Delftsche Studenten Bond, after which the document was handed to mayor Marja van Bijsterveldt and vice-rector magnificus Rob Mudde.
Amnesty manifesto
The declaration of intent is an initiative of the student wellbeing working group, a project of the Delft Association Council (VeRa), which aims to take a more structural approach to transgressive behaviour.
An important reason for drawing up the declaration of intent are the results of the Amnesty study which shows that one in ten women and one percent of men are raped during their studies.
Their call upon all universities and colleges to sign a manifesto in which they promise to offer their students more protection, was left unanswered by TU Delft. At the time, Mudde said that he did not feel much in favour of compulsory workshops – one of the demands in the manifesto – for all students, but that he was more interested in an approach through the associations.
