The adventure for the people attending the OWee began on Sunday. Delta asked seven first year students what they expect from the introduction week.

“I just want to have fun this week. And meet lots of people and get to know the city. I started studying medicine in Rotterdam and experienced the introduction week there twice, once as a visitor and once as a mentor. To be a visitor again feels a little strange. But Delft is a really pretty city, certainly in comparison to other technical university cities. I still live in Rotterdam but if I find a nice room in Delft, I would definitely move here.
I am sleeping in one of Virgiel’s houses during the OWee. It’s really fun. I might become a member, but I don’t know yet for certain. I should have made a list of everything I wanted to see, but I was unfortunately too lazy to do so. I did hear through the grapevine that the Virgiel festival is great though. But there is so much on offer and I mostly want to look around and experience everything.”

“I am staying at X this week. We just put our stuff there, picked up our wrist bands and left. I missed the first-years’ weekend as I came back from Spain late on Saturday. So I started the event without much sleep.
It is not my first introduction week. I once attended the EL CID in Leiden. I studied Computer Science there for a year. It was a really enjoyable week and I hope the OWee will be so too. I don’t know Delft very well. I hope I will know where the fun places are at the end of the week. Unfortunately, I will only turn 18 in a fortnight so I will have to do everything without a drop of alcohol. This will be hard, even though you can have fun without alcohol.”

“I come from Romania and knew for a long time that I wanted to study abroad. I checked out good universities and settled on TU Delft. I am currently staying at X but will move to my own place in Rijswijk on Wednesday. I have a room there in a student flat for international students.
The OWee seems like a good way to see the city and get to know TU Delft. I am very much looking forward to the opening party. I don’t know anything about Dutch parties, so am curious to know how they are done. I also want to do the backstage campus tour. The campus here is so big, definitely compared to Romanian universities.”

“A friend of mine is studying at TU Delft and asked me if I wanted to join the OWee. I had never heard of it but an introduction like this seemed nice. I am staying at X this week, but will continue to live at my parents’ house in Noordwijkerhout. It will take 45 minutes to get here by motorbike once I get my licence. It’s easier than trying to find a house here.
I’m currently still playing basketball in Voorhout, but I would like to join the student basketball club in Delft. I’ve not yet seen what there is to do here at the OWee. I’ve not really looked at the programme properly yet. I’ll see what I do. I mostly just want to go out with my group and drink beer. I thought it would be fun to sleep in the dormitory so that’s what I’m doing. Our group claimed a corner so that we could talk about the day when we get back.”

“I’m still living in Deventer but hope to find a room in Delft quickly. I had one, but it was suddenly cancelled. Luckily I have a place to sleep in the dormitory at X for the OWee.
No idea what will happen here. I have the app with the programme but the information is a little vague. I’ll just go with the flow. I assume there will be a lot of drinking in the evenings and a lot of looking around Delft and the student associations. I don’t think I’ll join a student association. They’re more about partying and organising activities, and that’s not really me. I want to concentrate on my degree programme and go to the gym.”

“We just had our first-years’ weekend. It was a lot of fun. The supervisors really made it one big party. We slept in studios here at the Faculty but my mattress was a little thin. I’m fine though and we will simply continue. I really feel like partying this week, experiencing the atmosphere, and hopefully meeting people who I can share a house with. I might become a member of an association, but don’t know which one yet.”

“Luckily I can stay in two student club houses this week. I couldn’t make up my mind whether it would be the student club or Virgiel, but I think it will be the student club. I will do everything with them this week. I think it will be exhausting socially this week. We will constantly meet new people and mix with them. I think I will be dead tired at the end of the week and ready to climb into my own bed. But I’m sure it will be super fun.”
