TU Delft students and employees divided on Campus Rotterdam

The results of the Participatory Value Evaluation (PWE) on Campus Rotterdam are in. Of the 1,592 students and staff who took part in the online consultation, 35 percent said they do not support the idea of the campus. Another 38 percent support it under certain conditions, while 27 percent are fully in favour.

“I personally fall into the ‘yes, but’ category,” says Professor Maaike Kleinsmann, chair of the TU Delft | Campus Rotterdam programme, in an interview on intranet. “The project only makes sense if some crucial preconditions are met. People highlight the importance of clear benefits for teaching and research alike, as well as the creation of new collaborations. Last but not least, people are concerned whether we can generate the additional financial resources needed.”

The programme’s strategy has shifted from rapid growth to a ‘more organic approach’. “Prioritising sensible, feasible steps”, Kleinsmann explains. Collaboration with Rotterdam partners is central to this process.
