Three gold medals for Delft’s top rowers

TU Delft top athletes Roos de Jong (now an alumna), Willemijn Mulder and Tessa Dullemans won gold at the World Rowing Championships in Shanghai. On Friday, De Jong won the world title as part of the double sculls. Mulder and Dullemans finished first in the women’s quadruple sculls on Thursday.

This is the first time since 2017 that the Dutch women’s quadruple sculls team has won the world title. In addition to Laga members Mulder and Dullemans, Lisa Bruijnincx and Margot Leeuwenburgh were also part of the quadruple sculls team. The team clocked a time of 6:32.92, beating Olympic and world champions Great Britain, who finished second with a time of 6:34.52. De Jong and Benthe Boonstra are rowing together in the double sculls for the first time this year.

Olympic Games

At the last Olympic Games in Paris, the Dutch quadruple sculls team won silver. The boat was crewed by Bente Paulis and three top athletes from Delft: Dullemans, Roos de Jong and Laila Youssifou. The double sculls team, then consisting of De Jong and Dullemans, already won gold at the European Championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, in May.
