Students may travel for free from Thursday afternoon

Good Friday is an official holiday in the Netherlands, but not a compulsory day off. Shops are open as usual and many people have to work. Universities and universities of applied sciences are closed. Does this day now fall under the weekend or week subscription for public transportation?

Good Friday is the only holiday on which all students with a public transport card can travel for free, regardless of whether they have a week or weekend season ticket. And it is allowed as early as noon on Thursday.

On Easter Monday, things are different. As on all other public holidays, only students with a weekend pass will be allowed to travel for free and students with a week pass will have to pay. However, they do get a discount, just like at weekends: 40 percent for the train and 34 percent for tram, bus, metro and waterbus. On trains, they are allowed to have three people travelling at a discount during off-peak hours. (HOP, HC)
