Spirit Day at TU Delft

Spirit Day at TU Delft

Since 2010, the Netherlands has celebrated Purple Friday every second Friday in December. On this day, people can show their solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community by wearing something purple. Delta’s social media logos are therefore given a purple colour for one day.

Purple Friday was inspired by Spirit Day, an initiative of Canadian teenager Brittany McMillan. She created the day after an increase in the number of suicides among homosexual students in 2010. In Canada and the United States, Spirit Day is celebrated every third Thursday in October.

In the Netherlands, Spirit Day takes place every second Friday in December and is then called Paarse Vrijdag (Purple Friday). The colour reflects the purple in the rainbow flag, which symbolises spirit.

True-U, DWH and Outsite are organising Purple Friday at TU Delft for the third time this year.
