Solar boat to Maritime Museum Rotterdam
In the opinion of the TU Delft Solar Boat Team, a museum should not only be about the past but also about the future. The addition of the 2016 solar boat to the Rotterdam Maritime Museum draws attention to the need to make shipping more sustainable – a challenge for the coming decades. Another solar boat has already found its way to a museum, namely the Maritime Museum in Amsterdam.
With its deck full of high-quality solar panels and its two hydrofoils, the solar boat in the Rotterdam Maritime Museum looks futuristic. And yet, figuratively, it is already a museum piece. As of next year, the TU Delft team will sail without solar panels, but on hydrogen. They are preparing for the Solar & Energy Boat Challenge in Monaco.
