There are now 151 former students who missed out on the basic grant and are entitled to a study voucher worth two thousand euros. None of them have applied for the voucher yet.

This is what outgoing Minister Van Engelshoven writes to the Lower House in a series of answers about next year’s education budget. The 151 former students have all received a letter.

Voucher

The scrapping of the basic grant in September 2015 made studying thousands of euros more expensive, while the proceeds of the new loan system (‘study advance’) were delayed. That is why the first batches of students received a little compensation.

That is the voucher for further training. Sixteen students were already entitled to it last academic year (they graduated at lightning speed: in 2015/2016) and another 136 students can make use of it as of this academic year. None of the former students have made use of the offer so far. Although they still have a few years left: the vouchers are valid for five to ten years after graduation. (HOP, BB)
