Occupation TU/e only during the day

Occupation TU/e only during the day

Two action groups have been occupying two rooms at TU Eindhoven for a week. They want the university to break ties with the fossil industry. They have agreed with the university that they will no longer spend the night there.

“The atmosphere is cheerful here, we are cleaning up a bit and sleeping in our own bed for the next two nights”, students from the action group End Fossil Occupy told university magazine Cursor on Friday. Last weekend, the activists took a break and went home. On Monday morning, the occupation continued.

To the Eindhovens Dagblad, the occupiers revealed (in Dutch) that they made a deal with the university administration. If they left during the weekend, they were allowed to leave their belongings behind on the condition that they would only be present during the week between 7 AM and 11 PM. The university would thus not risk a fine for illegal overnight stays.

On Friday, the administration acknowledged the climate crisis, as well as the unfair damage it is causing, reports Cursor. The activists said they were grateful but not yet satisfied. They said the administrators should offer more transparency about the TU/e’s financial ties with the fossil industry and break those ties. (HOP, PvT)
