Student unions burglar’s targetChristiaan Huygens, the student union for faculty of Information Technology and Systems, was burgled last Saturday night.
Thieves, using a bicycle rack as a ladder, smashed the window and entered the first-floor office. They stole a few hundred guilders from a small safe. Christiaan Huygens is the eighth student union to be burgled in the past six months. They must fear a return visit from the thieves, because other students unions have been robbed twice. The loot the thieves stole during their serial robberies ranges from several thousand guilders to mobile phones, computers and cameras
Survey on library
Students like studying in TU’s main library so much that they wish it were open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights until ten o’clock. This is one the conclusions of a survey conducted by the student group, Oras, which interviewed two-hundred students. The surveyed students use the library facilities often, especially in exam periods, when they use the library five days a week. Women especially prefer the main library to libraries in the various faculty buildings. Students also complained about the library%s computers, saying they lacked sufficient programs and plug-ins. The survey%s strangest finding, however, concerned the men’s toilets. They’re filthy and smell bad, say female students.
Delft-Leiden merger
In a public forum discussion on Thursday, January 18th, students responded skeptically to plans for merging the Delft chemistry and chemical technology curriculum with its chemistry counterpart at Leiden University. Students of the new curriculum, called ‘Molecular Science and Technology’, would study in both cities, increasing efficiency for both universities. Opponents fear technological skills may be underrepresented in the new curriculum.
