Works council wants faculties to decide on teaching language
TU’s works council expressed doubts about introducing English as the primary language for MSc courses. “With fifteen MSc-students attending your lectures, it makes sense to teach in English. But it’s a different story, with only one or two Erasmus students present,” says Dr. Klaas van der Werff, design professor and member of the works council. Van der Werff’s afraid the benefits won’t justify the extra time and effort required. Moreover, all MSc courses don’t necessarily have to be given in English. Internationally orientated research groups must use English, but this shouldn’t apply to sections whose graduates mainly work in the Dutch market.
Delft’s bachelors degree valid in London, Aachen and Zurich
The four Idea League universities will recognize each other’s bachelor degrees, it was decided at the last league meeting, in Zürich. Starting next year, students can study at an Idea League university (Imperial College (London), ETH (Zürich) and RWTH in (Aachen)) after completing their third year. At foreign universities they’ll be treated as ‘home-grown’ bachelors. Foreign students will be able to continue their studies in Delft. Bachelor degrees from Electro-technical Engineering and Chemical Engineering are now recognized by all Idea League universities.
