Minister understands housing shortage warning

Minister understands about housing shortage warning

Students are sometimes told that they had better look for another university if they have not found accommodation by the start of the academic year. Education Minister Dijkgraaf understands this. ‘The shortage of student housing affects all students, including Dutch students’, he replied to written questions from D66. The political party had questioned him about the housing shortage at the end of July.

International students have been told for years that they had better not come if they have not found housing. Maastricht University is now also giving this warning to Dutch students. Institutions should be ‘very cautious about international recruitment activities’ for the time being, Dijkgraaf believes, unless they are in shrinking regions or if they are recruiting for programmes in sectors with shortages.
