Minister Dijkgraaf: bsa down to thirty credits
To improve student welfare, Education Minister Dijkgraaf wants to take the pressure off by adjusting the binding recommendation on the continuation of studies (bsa). If secretary he gets his way, students will only have to obtain 30 out of 60 credits to continue their studies, instead of 45, starting in the academic year 2025/2026. That is, if the plan gets a majority in the Dutch parliament.
Students, however, must again obtain 30 credits in their second year, he writes in a letter (in Dutch) to the House of Representatives. So after two years of studying, they must have accumulated at least 60 credits. This will give them more time to get used to studying, the minister believes.
The universities propose two alternatives. Their ideal: let study programs themselves, in consultation with the participation council, determine which standard suits them. Should that not be politically feasible, at least set the standard higher. (HOP, BB)
