Kick start your career now!

The time is now for TU Delft students to subscribe for the annual De Delftse Bedrijvendagen (The Delft Company Days), the largest technology-oriented career event in the Netherlands and the place where foreign students can find great opportunities for jobs, internships and graduation project placements.

Ever year De Delftse Bedrijvendagen (DDB) offers TU students a unique opportunity to meet representatives and recruiters from more than 100 leading national and international companies. At the various De Delftse Bedrijvendagen organized activities, BSc and MSc students, PhD candidates, and also TU Delft graduates can begin the challenging process of finding jobs, internships and graduation project placements.

De Delftse Bedrijvendagen proudly lay claim to being the largest career fair of its kind in the Netherlands, boasting of an impressive array of companies active in many different sectors both in the Netherlands and abroad. Although the ‘Application Training’ segment was completed this week, there is still time to subscribe for the other three key segments: still ahead on the schedule of events are the ‘Presentation Days’; ‘Workshops’; and ‘Interview Days’.

In keeping with the university’s ongoing internationalization process, the various De Delftse Bedrijvendagen activities offer equal access to TU Delft’s foreign and Dutch students alike. “This year some twenty-five percent of the students that have already subscribed for the activities are English-speaking only,” says Roel Dobbe, one of the De Delftse Bedrijvendagen organizers.

First up next week are the Presentation Days (February 12-14), when the TU’s Aula will be transformed into one big career fair, with representatives from hundreds of companies on hand to meet and greet students and provide information about their respective companies and what exactly they are looking for in prospective employees.

“Companies will also be giving presentations throughout the days,” Dobbe explains. “When meeting company recruiters, in addition to discussing job and internship opportunities, students can also propose their own ideas for pursuing their graduation projects at a particular company.”

The month of March marks the start of an extensive series of professional ‘Workshops’, which will primarily be held on location at the various participating companies. These workshops offer students a unique opportunity to spend quality time inside a company of their choosing, where they will get a good feel for the workplace environment and also have a chance to get to know the company’s personnel.

When attending a company workshop, the students will be set various problem-solving exercises that will challenge their abilities to develop problem-solving tools and to work in teams. Students will also learn how to improve their presentation skills. On March 18th, foreign companies that are obviously too faraway for students to visit in person will host their respective workshops in Delft.

The final step in this beneficial and insightful career process is the ‘Interview Days’. For this segment, students begin by filling in a CV online; this CV is then sent to a maximum of ten companies the students and graduates are interested in, as well as to those companies that may have expressed interest in a particular student or graduate. The companies then select the students or graduates they would like to meet and interviews are summarily arranged.

De Delftse Bedrijvendagen offers a comprehensive A-Z process for finding a job, internship or graduation project placement,” Dobbe concludes. “Application training, building your CV, a career fair, workshops, interviews…this is a golden opportunity for anyone who is eager to successfully embark on a professional career.”
