IT award goes to Delft 

 

 

Employees of TU Delft, Thomas More University of Applied Sciences and Vista College are receiving the SURF Education Award for their exceptional IT contribution to education at their institution. The winners received the prize for educational innovation on Tuesday, during the SURF Education Days in Den Bosch. 

 

Winners 
Timon Idema, associate professor and programme director for the master’s programme in nanobiology at TU Delft, developed a system for his field that allows lecturers, like him, to publish educational literature themselves. They then build a kind of web page with content, easily customisable graphics, videos, links and buttons. Teachers from other disciplines can copy such a page and remodel it as they see fit. According to the jury, these so-called open textbooks are “an important innovation to make learning material more and more widely accessible”.

Lecturer Diana Molenschot of Thomas More University of Applied Sciences received the award for her support to primary schools. She helps them improve digital literacy. 

 

Ict specialist Leon Sprooten of the Limburg-based Vista Collega deserves recognition, according to SURF, because he “really pushes for new developments”. Among other things, he was actively involved in a successful trial of ‘edubadges’ in secondary vocational education. (HOP, PvT)
