Foreign Eye

Foreign EyeFrench photographer Robert Doisneau can lay claim to having taken perhaps the world’s most famous photograph in 1950: ‘Kiss by the Hotel de Ville’, a photo of an unknown couple kissing in the busy streets of Paris.

But I at least can say that my ‘Kiss by the Delft Christmas Tree’ is better, because it’s real! When a French couple sued Doisneau in 1993, claiming that he took their picture without their knowledge, Doisneau was forced to admit that he actually posed the shot using his actor-model friends. But unknown kissing Delft couple, if you happen to see this photo, please don’t sue me…I’m just a poor foreign student at TU Delft!
