Fire in CEG building

A fire briefly raged in the Stevin III building of the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences on Tuesday morning. The fire started around 6:30 am.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, a burned heating element was found. Firefighters disconnected the element and placed it outside the building, after which they handed Stevin III back to TU Delft.

The building has been fully open again since about 10:30 am. Stevin III is used by the Hydraulic Engineering and Water Management department and has mainly lab facilities. Practicals are also sometimes held there. According to a spokesperson for CEG, these can continue as normal.

The spokesperson goes on to say that there was only smoke nuisance and no further damage to the building. (MvdV/AdB)
