Entertainment tips

MoviesDelfia:Cast Away, sat. + sun. + wed. 14:30, the movie that your Hollywood masters demand you spend your money on, starring the always rottenly melodramatic Tom Hanks and (surprise, surprise) timed to tie-in with TV’s current ‘Survivor’ and ‘Temptation Island’.

Desert Isles have never been so popular. Tom Hanks gets fat, gets skinny, and overacts with a semi-deflated volleyball, the latter deserving the Oscar that%s surely destined for terrible Tom.

Proof Of Life, thurs. to wed. 17:00 and 19:30, Thriller from an interesting angle. Russel Crowe works for a company specialising in ransoming kidnap victims. He has to rescue Meg Ryan’s husband, an oil executive, from the claws of the bad guys. But guess what? Russel Crowe + Meg Ryan = ? Formulaic, but entertaining.

Filmhuis Lumen

Billy Elliot, tues to wed. 19:30: a poor boy from a grim industrial town somewhere in England dreams of being either (A) a butcher (B) an alcoholic (c)a bus driver or (d) a ballet dancer. You figure out which one it is that’s got the women crying in the aisles.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, thurs. to wed. 22:00 (except sunday) Ang Lee’s masterful kung-fu kicking film about Chinese people, including women, who often get in masterful kung fu fights. Not to be missed.
