Elections at only one Personnel Committee, though, more candidates
Elections will be held at only one Personnel Committee (the local Works Council) on 3 and 4 October, and that is at QuTech. There are as many seats as candidates there, but because one seat is standardly occupied by a member of the central Works Council, one candidate will still have to be eliminated.
At the nine other Personnel Committees – those of the eight faculties and of the University Corporate Office – the number of candidates is too low to hold elections. At the Faculty of Engineering, the shortage is the greatest. There, there are only six candidates for 13 seats. The Administrative Secretary of the Works Council informs that one more person may be added.
Update: At EEMCS, there are not 10 but 9 candidates because a check of the list revealed that 1 person is employed for a shorter period of time than regulation requires. The limit is 3 April 2023.
Three years ago, during the last elections at TU Delft, participation did not succeed in finding enough candidates for elections in all committees either. Then there were Personnel Committee elections at two faculties. According to Menno Blaauw, Chairman of the Works Council, there is nevertheless reason for optimism. In fact, this time there are two additional seats at three faculties (Architecture, AE and TPM) and the shortage of candidates has nevertheless decreased.
For the Works Council, the elections will continue as they did three years ago, it became clear earlier. As then, there are 36 candidates for 25 seats. There are four lists: FNV, Democratic Policy, Academic Interest and the new Young Researchers’ Impact list. Blaauw expects a lot from the election. “I think the new list will campaign heavily and I also expect a substantial turnout,” he said. (SB)
