Delft solar car in third position halfway through the race
The Delft students of the Vattenfall Solar Team are in third place halfway through the race on Wednesday 27 October (on the third day of the race).
Normally the World Solar Racing Championships would be held in Australia this autumn. But corona threw a spanner in the works. Teams therefore switched to an unofficial world race in Morocco.
The team had a tough second stage, the students write on their blog. “Solar car Nuna11 started strongly, but did not follow up. The team is still in third place.”
The second day of the solar race was the longest stage of the race at 548 kilometres. It was also the toughest, with several mountain passes and gradients of 11 percent.
After the mountains, the high pace was not maintained. Despite the abundance of sunshine – there wasn’t a cloud in the sky – the team chose not to make a sprint to the competition, but to save energy for the days ahead. In the end, the team finished at a large distance from the stage winner, Solar Team Twente.
The race can be followed closely on this site.
