As TU Delft strives to polish its image, the work currently being done to create a uniform ‘house-style’ has run into an old dilemma: How should Technical Universiteit Delft be translated into English? Delft University of Technology, or Technical University of Delft? The former mirrors US/British usage, but when abbreviated % DUT % sounds rather dumb; while the latter may be unorthodox, it does allow for the commonly used ‘TU Delft’ abbreviation, although ‘Technical’ instead of ‘Technological’ is also questionable.

A problematic adsorption effect can be used in the design of a remarkable new air pollution detector. Tiny micro-mechanical elements, thinner than a human hair, how could these fragile structures possibly be reliable? While trying to answer this question, Robert Kazinczi, of the faculty of Information Technology ands Systems, enjoyed a moment of serendipity.
