A modular student housing complex containing eight hundred studios may be relocated from Amsterdam’s Zuidas district to the TU Delft campus.

TU Delft, student housing provider DUWO and the municipality of Delft are currently investigating how feasible this plan is, and intend to make a decision around mid‑2026. The municipal council was informed of the plans this week.
The studios are 21 square metres in size and have a bathroom and kitchen. The building, formerly known as Ravel Residence, also has a gym and 1,000 square metres of commercial space. The student complex is set to disappear from Amsterdam’s Zuidas district in 2027 to make way for other real estate projects. The modular complex would also be temporarily located in Delft. It is not known how many years this would be for. It is not a done deal yet, as other parties are also interested in the modular complex.
Reactor Institute Delft
TU Delft has identified a grass field along Mekelweg and Heertjeslaan – between the Reactor Institute Delft and Firma van Buiten – as a promising location. Further studies will determine whether the location is actually suitable for the building. The Province of South Holland must still approve a temporary residential designation for this area.

Delft is currently facing a shortage of 1,600 student rooms, and according to estimates this deficit will rise to 3,500 by 2032. DUWO plans to renovate or ‘intensify’ several complexes in Delft in the coming years (adding more units by constructing additional floors or reducing room sizes). For this, temporary accommodation at other locations is needed, but DUWO does not currently have access to such sites. This building is also intended to provide a solution for that challenge.
