Work from home advice due to air conditioning problems
Just when temperatures outside are rising, the air conditioning in some TU Delft building has stopped working. At least in the TU Delft Library and the A-wing of the Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management (TPM), the climate control has largely failed this week. As a result, offices are getting a lot hotter than they should be.
In the library, where temperatures are approaching thirty degrees on the third and fourth floor on the east side, the cause is a leak in one of the pipes. A repair is necessary, according to Building Management. That is expected to be done by the end of the week. At TPM the cause is a faulty cooling system.
Workers in the affected areas in the library were notified of the issues by email on Sunday night. “Due to a malfunction in the ventilation system in the back-office, it would be advisable, if possible, to work from home on Monday 12 June.” After Monday, the problems continued. Nevertheless, employees can be found here and there. They have strategically found the workplaces that remain relatively cool.
For students, the damage is not too bad. The study areas are largely spared, since the climate in those areas is regulated via other air ducts. That is a good thing for students during the exam period, since their rooms often get too hot to study in during summer days like these. (KB)
