Every day sewage treatment plants are producing sludge. 30% Of this sludge can be transformed in to Biogas that will be used to create energy for all our modern needs.
Transporting and burning the rest of the sludge is expensive. TU Delft researcher Steef the Valk is looking for new ways to cope with this sludge by researching a specific type of worm.
These wonderful worms are capable of doing something magnificent. They eat part of the sludge and thereby create biomass that can be used in energy plants. By doing this they increase the percentage of sludge that can be used and doesn’t need to be transported or incinerated.
