For the second day in a row, vandals have caused damage on campus, this time at the Echo educational building. During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, twenty-five windows were smashed and sprayed with anti-Zionist slogans. Tonight, Echo is scheduled to host a lecture by “Zionist thinker” Gil Troy.
Texts on the shattered windows include phrases such as “Stop your zionist war propaganda” and “stop zio’s.” It also appears that butyric acid was used again, similar to the incident at the Aula on Tuesday and three weeks ago during the Delft Career Days. Because of the smell, the Echo service desk has temporarily been moved to the quiet room on the ground floor.
Windows along almost the entire width of the entrance façade have been smashed. The Echo education building, which opened at TU Delft in May 2022, consists almost entirely of glass façade panels measuring up to 2.6 by 5 meters. Despite the situation, people inside are continuing to study as usual.
Lecture
During tonight’s lecture, organized by StandWithUs, Gil Troy — an American historian and “Zionist thinker” — will, according to the poster, talk about topics such as “how being a Zionist became taboo” and “how to embrace your Jewish identity on campus while also feeling safe.” The building coordinator has indicated that Campus Security is currently discussing whether the event can still take place this evening.
