Will European research billions survive?

Will European research billions survive?

If it is up to the European Commission, the corona crisis will not affect the EU’s research and innovation budget for the next seven years. Wednesday, the European Commission presented its new budget proposal of €1,100 billion, together with the €750 billion reconstruction programme due to the corona crisis. The budget also includes EUR 94.4 billion for Horizon Europe. According to the Commission, this money should be spent mainly on health research, on the ‘resilience of Europe’, and on the digital and green transitions. The question now is whether the member states, with ‘stingy’ countries like the Netherlands at the forefront, and the Parliament will agree. (HOP)
