Tuition fees up by 25 euros

Tuition fees up by 25 euros

Studying becomes a little more expensive again. In the academic year 2021-2022, tuition fees will increase by 25 euros to 2,168 euros. It is a smaller increase than last year, when tuition fees rose by 60 euros. In 2014 it even went up by 71 euros. Tuition fees are determined each year on the basis of the ‘consumer price index’ of the Dutch Central Bureau of Statistics (Centraal Bureau voor de Statistiek, CBS). This index shows the price development of goods and services, such as groceries, clothing, rent, petrol and insurance premiums. It remains to be seen what the impact of the ‘corona recession’ will be. For the time being, prices in May were 1.2 percent higher than last year, according to the CBS. Incidentally, the calculation of this index has also been slightly different in recent months. After all, as long as no one went to the pub, the hairdressers or on holiday, no prices could be measured. The CBS has therefore opted for an estimation method for some situations. (HOP)
