TU leidt waterproject van 17 miljoen

De Europese Commissie heeft 17 miljoen euro ter beschikking gesteld voor het project Mining Water dat innovatieve oplossingen belooft voor de winning van grondstoffen uit afvalwater. Het publiek-private consortium telt 38 partners in twaalf landen, en wordt geleid vanuit de TU Delft. Onderzoeksleider prof.dr.ir Mark van Loosdrecht (environmental biotechnology, TNW) zegt daarover: “Water is essentieel voor de gezondheid, zeker in steden. Afvoer van sanitair afval is een belangrijke functie van het riool. Dit programma gaat helpen om afvalwater herbruikbaar te maken, en om afvalcomponenten om te zetten in grondstoffen als bijdrage naar een circulaire economie.” Het programma Mining Water gaat per 1 september 2020 van start met demonstratieprojecten in Cyprus, Spanje, Portugal, Italië en Nederland.
