Ten million for better science communication
Education Minister Dijkgraaf wants to lay a ‘solid foundation’ for science communication in the Netherlands. A new national centre must contribute to confidence in science.
The new centre will gather and share expertise to make science communication more effective. Minister Dijkgraaf has made more than 10 million euros available for the centre, which will be set up together with scientists over the next ten years. The centre will be based on similar initiatives in Germany (‘Wissenschaft im Dialog’) and England (‘National Center for Public Engagement’).
In March, Dijkgraaf gave a lecture in Leiden in which he discussed the importance of good scientific communication and narrowing the gap between science and society. “The task of science is to become more visible and accessible.” (HOP/HC)
