Students protest for more classes

Students want more physical classes and will be demonstrating for this on Friday at the Museumplein in Amsterdam. “I’ve only had online classes this year.” Masks are ready to hand out, the grass will be sprayed with dots to encourage students to keep distance, and a security company will keep watch. Friday’s demonstration will be corona-proof, say the organisers. The students are concerned. They want more lessons at suitable locations, such as theatres and congress centres. They say this is better for their education and for reducing growing inequality (not everyone has good internet and a fast computer). And for their well-being. The demonstration is the ‘I want to go back to school’ action group’s idea and is supported by two Amsterdam student unions (ASVA and SRVU) and LSVB, the National Student Trade Union. The organisers are counting on around 500 demonstrators, although they hope for more. The Museumplein is big enough, they say. (HOP, Bas Belleman)
