Students protest at DUO building
Students will protest in front of the main office of DUO in Groningen, at the start of the new academic year next Monday 31 August. They will cut a ribbon and rename DUO the ‘Ministry of Debt’. The protest is an idea of the National Student Union (LSVb) and FNV Young & United. The two unions have been campaigning against high study debts for a year now.
The opening of the academic year is traditionally the time when students and unions protest. For example, next Monday scientists will cycle from university to university out of dissatisfaction with the many temporary contracts at universities. In Utrecht, students will chalk ten thousand red squares on the ground out of solidarity with their overworked teachers. (HOP)
