Slaloming between camels
Sandstorms, chaotic traffic and camels on the road. Conditions will be quite hectic for the Vattenfall Solar Team during the Solar Challenge in Morocco, which takes place from 25 to 29 October. The race for solar cars replaces the World Solar Racing Championship in Australia, which was cancelled due to corona.
In 2019, the Vattenfall Solar Team was leading the race in Australia as the defending champion with the finish line in sight, when NunaX suddenly caught fire. The Belgian Agoria Solar Team won the race. With their Nuna11, the Delft students hope to regain the title of world champion in solar racing. While most competitors have opted for a bullet-shaped design, the Vattenfall Solar Team has chosen a kind of catamaran with three wheels.
There are five stages, which alternate between the busy Moroccan city traffic, the mountains and the desert. The unpredictability of Moroccan traffic, with even animals on the road, and the weather conditions will be the main factors the solar cars will have to take into account. The race can be followed closely on this site next week.
