Rector nuances statement in earlier Delta interview

At the request of rector magnificus Tim van der Hagen, Delta has added a post-script to the interview with him that Delta published on 24 September. The post-script was added after Van der Hagen indicated to Delta on Friday 18 October that he wanted to ‘nuance’ his statement ‘the settlement agreements that I am familiar with are for perpetrators’. Van der Hagen made the statement when he was asked whether settlement agreements with a duty of confidentiality get in the way of aftercare for victims of social unsafety.

Van der Hagen now informs Delta that he ‘by no means’ meant to say ‘that settlement agreements are or have been closed with ‘perpetrators’ by definition’. “I could (and should) have stated more clearly that this was certainly not always, but rather in some situations, the case. In addition, we could have better emphasised that the examples in the interview are strictly hypothetical and in no way relate to actual case histories. I am sorry if that impression was given.”

The rector writes ‘we’ because interim manager of the integrity office Olivier Sueur was also present at the interview. Both were given several days before publication to check the interview for factual inaccuracies or misquotes.
