Re-entry UK to European research programme upcoming
Now that the European Commission and the UK have reached a deal on border controls between the EU and Northern Ireland, the way seems clear for the UK’s final re-entry into Horizon Europe research programme.
Although the UK Parliament has yet to agree to it, a deal on border controls was reached on Monday, three years after Brexit. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen wants to move ahead immediately, reports Times Higher Education.
To the press, she revealed that the deal is also good news for scientists and researchers in the European Union and the UK. As far as she is concerned, the association treaty governing re-entry into Horizon Europe can now be signed quickly.
Just last week, Neth-ER, the outpost of Dutch education and research in Brussels, wrote in a position paper that the EU cannot afford to exclude the UK and Switzerland from the research programme. (HOP, PvT)
