Ramesh’ column

Ramesh’ columnI would like to reply to Ramesh Chidambaram’s column (Delta 02). Your comments on the ‘international infrastructure’ – as you tried to find what you needed to help further your career after TU Delft – has made us more aware of the need to communicate more clearly to our foreign students as to what is available at TU Delft.

We thank you for emphasizing the point. For those in similar need of courses or materials, be it language courses, career orientation courses or materials, or even self-study materials, there is indeed a TU Delft office, like the office at your home university in India, which will help you research opportunities for studying in universities abroad.

To get an idea of all services on offer you could go to: www.studentandcareersupport.tudelft.nl. There you will find the materials and tests that are available in the information center, including sample materials for the TOEFL and GMAT. You will also find a list of courses that will help you with your career choices, even those specifically geared towards our foreign students. And last but not least, it gives you the names of (career) counselors with whom you can make individual appointments. You could also come to Jaffalaan 9A and have a look around in the information center.

As for the language courses, many foreign language courses are not offered in Dutch but in the target language itself, so the native language of the learner is not an issue. For more information about the language courses taught at TU Delft please go to: www.campus.tbm.tudelft.nl and click on ‘electives and minors’.

For information on language courses taught outside the TU Delft, you could look in our information center and I can assure you and the students currently at the TU Delft: there are definitely courses to be found, also if you do not speak Dutch.

We will definitely take note of your outcry and try to make our information and materials available where you (international students) are likely to look and our priority will be to have our help and information available in English.
